WASTE MANAGEMENT TELEMATICS
Telematics products and service platforms for Waste Management in Smart Cities.
Smart Cities technologies
How Telematics can improve
the quality of life
AVMAP Telematics is also helping both industry and public administrations adapt to the continuing challenges that large cities are facing, towards the “Smart City” model.
A smart city is a place where traditional networks and services are made more efficient with the use of data and technologies, making urban environments more practical, sustainable, secure, and liveable for their inhabitants and business.
Telematics, the Internet of things (IoT), and Big data analytics are enabling technologies for Smart Cities, that can support and facilitate the transformation process of cities especially in the field of public transport and mobility, smart parking solutions, and waste management (collection, treatment, and recovery models).

Management of waste collection and sweeping data for IoT HuB
G9 Ekoway
|
G9 EKOWAYThe interaction between the fleet manager and the operator takes place through the G9 EKOWAY, a 9” touchscreen display with a keyboard, that can be easily operated also wearing gloves. G9 EKOWAY allows recording on the dedicated remote server all the operations performed by the operator during waste collection and street cleaning. |
4GHS Eko
HS EKOHS EKO is a hotspot and telematics blackbox able to record and send data about waste collection to a dedicated server. HS EKO collets data from the G9 EKOWAY such as the information about the operations performed (container unloading / no unloading; cleaning / not cleaning of streets), and from the RFID antenna that is activated in the proximity of the collection containers. |
Rfid Antenna
Rfid Antenna / sensorsThe RFID antenna is used in alternative or combination with the vehicle’s power take-off sensors to prove that a container was collected. The RFID antenna is able to receive a message from the tag of the container and transmit it to the HS EKO that will send the message to a dedicated remote server. |
Job dispatch
Automatic reporting
G9 EKOWAY is connected to the EKOVISION ERP system to:
-
Upload work sheets at the beginning of the work shift.
-
Send worksheets filled with all data from final countability at the end of work shift.
-
The fleet manager can also send a new job sheet with new destinations.
Vehicle Operation Control
Through vehicle sensors and smart bins
The AvMap Telematics system includes a RFID antenna, used to prove that a smart container was collected. The RFID antenna is able to receive a message from the tag of the container and transmit it to the HS EKO that will send the message to a dedicated remote server.
In case of traditional containers, the vehicle operation is controlled through sensors. G9 EKOWAY is connected to the vehicle power take-off sensors, and it is able to detect:
-
The event of emptying the container (for compactors)
-
The activation/deactivation of brushes (for sweepers)
G9 EKOWAY integration with management software
The guide for ecological operators
G9 EKOWAY is a connected GPS satellite navigator with a custom software developed by AVMAP Telematics, that displays on map the route with the collection points, or road sections to be swept, as indicated in the Daily Work Sheets sent by the central office.
The points are indicated in red, green or white depending on the status (completed, to be done, skipper or partially complete). For each task that is not carried out, the operator must choose from a simple drop down menu the reason why it was not possible to complete it.
Waste collection and sweeping data management
On dedicated IoT portals or ERP systems
Thanks to the EKOWAY system, municipal waste management companies can monitor:
- The trip log of the vehicles
- Vehicles Telemetry
- Tasks (containers / streets) completed on map
- Actions of activation / deactivation of brushes (for sweepers) on map
- Actions of emptying the container (for compactors) on map
- The report of the daily work, with indication of task completed, and reason why some tasks where not completed
- Actions of activation / deactivation of brushes (for sweepers)
- Actions of emptying the container (for compactors)
